Since the launch of the Into the Unjust update on September 3 in Helldivers 2, the community has accused the studio of ignoring worsening performance issues, game-breaking crashes, and bloated PC file sizes. The worst part is that the response we’ve seen so far from the devs does not give us a lot of hope.
Arrowhead being silent on massive technical issue they manufactured.

Helldivers 2 has been one of the most surprising successes of the gaming industry in 2024 and 2025. But despite this success, Arrowhead Game Studios is under fire from its most dedicated fans.
Where Did It Go So Wrong for Arrowhead Game Studios?

The problem is not a lack of ambition. Arrowhead has given us some of the best content updates for Helldivers 2. Just recently, we got terrifying new enemies like the Dragonroach and the Hive Lords as we went into the hive tunnels full of bugs. But it’s just that the technical side of them can’t keep up.
Anyone else having issues with HellDivers 2 PC performance? My PC is much stronger than the minimum requirements and yet even when playing on all settings low, CPU/GPU are getting up to 70°… at points it will freeze for a second and then unfreeze, but tonight my whole pc crashed

Players are now reporting that their PCs are hard-freezing every time they launch the game. Others note that performance is nearly identical on low and ultra settings. One thing that’s been getting worse and worse is the game’s bloated 140GB PC file size. If you compare it to consoles, the game is only 35GB on PlayStation and Xbox.
I don't know what they've done but they've ruined helldivers 2 on ps5.
It used to be pretty much a consistent 60fps but now hovers around 45fps since the latest update.
Hopefully they can fix it soon because I want to get back into the game but performance is dog water now. pic.twitter.com/cRtMxoT6lS

CEO Shams Jorjani admitted last week that fixing this is a priority, but offered no timeline. For players who can’t even get past the start screen, that’s not enough. And if you know the Helldivers 2 community, you know they haven’t been quiet about this.
We’ve covered the recent outrage a good bit, but the latest complaint comes from a Reddit user, who wrote, “You’re destroying trust (besides destroying OSes and/or hardware potentially.” Even the players who aren’t facing big crashes have degraded performance.
Where Will Helldivers 2 Go From Here?

We already know that Jorjani has acknowledged the problem. One suggestion from fans was that the studio should implement another 60-day plan, like the one the devs did to fix the broken meta of the game. But Jorjani responded to this, saying that a 60-day action plan like the one used earlier this year wouldn’t be enough.
I uninstalled Helldivers 2.
I love the game so much, but unoptimized game size, unnecessary patching and the fact I have to rely on Lossless Scaling to hit stable frames with how CPU demanding it is for no reason just don't make an enjoyable experience. pic.twitter.com/fITBsbdaKw— 0nji_ (@0nji_) September 8, 2025
He says that “the fixes that are required are deep engine stuff that take longer to fix.” If you have any kind of knowledge about game development or how a game engine works, you know that we can’t take this as reassurance. We can basically take this as confirmation that Helldivers 2 may never be fully stable without a full engine overhaul, and that’s something more likely to happen in a sequel than a patch.
The studio is at a crossroads. The Helldivers 2 is still massively popular, but it’s broken from the inside. The community isn’t asking for flashy new content right now. We just want a game that works. Yet the studio is trapped between a dead engine, technical debt, and players who don’t have endless patience.
Unless Arrowhead prioritizes performance and optimization, even democracy’s most loyal soldiers may abandon the war for good. Will you be one of them?
