Why Did ‘A House of Dynamite’ Director Divorce James Cameron?

The acclaimed director Kathryn Bigelow once drew as much attention for her relationship with James Cameron as for her movies. The filmmakers got married in 1989, marking her first marriage and his third, following splits from Sharon Williams and producer Gale Anne Hurd.

However, similar to his first two marriages, Cameron’s marriage to A House of Dynamite director also came to an end, with the two divorcing in 1991.

The exact reasons behind their separation have never been made public, leaving only speculation. However, they maintained a professional respect and amicable relationship after parting ways, even collaborating on the 1995 science-fiction thriller Strange Days.

Though their marriage ended in 1991, Kathryn Bigelow and James Cameron frequently crossed paths in Hollywood, even finding themselves in direct competition at the 82nd Academy Awards.

Bigelow was nominated for her 2008 war thriller The Hurt Locker, while Cameron earned recognition for his sci-fi epic Avatar. In one of the most memorable Oscar nights in history, Bigelow triumphed, winning both Best Director and Best Picture.




Her victory not only marked a personal triumph over her ex-husband but also made her the first woman ever to win the Oscar for Best Director.

She later described the experience of winning the historic award in Cameron’s presence as a “humbling experience,” calling the Titanic director one of her greatest inspirations.

“I think Jim is very inspiring, and I think he inspires filmmakers around the world, and for that, I think I can speak for all of them,” she said, as per US Weekly, admitting that she has learned a lot from him.
