Fans have finally gotten their first look at Ben Affleck and Matt Damon’s upcoming Netflix thriller, titled The Rip. The film will follow a group of police officers in Miami who chance upon millions of dollars in cash in a derelict stash house.
Of course, things go sideways as these cops who kept the money for themselves find distrust amongst their friends and fellow cops. Alongside Matt Damon and Ben Affleck, the film also stars Steven Yeun, Kyle Chandler, and Teyana Taylor.

The film will be helmed by writer and director Joe Carnahan, who is known for his work in movies like Narc and Smokin’ Aces. Ben Affleck had worked earlier with director Joe Carnahan in Smokin’ Aces, so it seems that the actor-director duo won’t have too much of a problem.
Joe Carnahan’s The Rip Reunites Matt Damon and Ben Affleck After Two Years

People love a good friendship story, and Matt Damon and Ben Affleck are two of the best friends that Hollywood has ever seen. Growing up together, the two wrote the screenplay of Good Will Hunting and starred in it.
Debuting back in 1997, Damon and Affleck won an Oscar for being the youngest screenplay artists at that time. Throughout the years, the two friends have worked together quite rarely. Together, they have created a production company called Artists Equity (which is also producing The Rip).
However, Matt Damon and Ben Affleck will reunite on the big screen after 2 years, with their last movie being Air. Of course, seeing Damon and Affleck together on the big screens is never a bad day, considering that The Rip is based on a true story.

The Rip is a True Story Meets Reservoir Dogs

According to a report by CBR, the film is based on true events that happened with director Joe Carnahan’s friend, who was the head of tactical narcotics for the Miami Police Department.
However, what seems to be so good about The Rip is that it is based on true events. The first look hints that it even has similarities to director Quentin Tarantino’s debut film. Quentin Tarantino directed Reservoir Dogs, a 1992 film with a similar storyline. In it, robbers perform a heist and then turn on each other because they suspect the other has the money.
We couldn’t help but notice the similarity between the two movies. Although it might not have been a case of inspiration, the coincidence is too spot on not to notice.
The plot of The Rip sounds quite similar, and we wouldn’t be surprised if the filmmaker adds one or two references to the Quentin Tarantino classic.
