Star Wars has finally dropped the trailer for The Mandalorian and Grogu, and fans everywhere are buzzing with excitement. This is the next big Star Wars movie, directed by Jon Favreau, and it will bring Din Djarin (Pedro Pascal) and Grogu back to the big screen.
The film will be released in theatres on May 22, 2026, and will feature new faces, including Sigourney Weaver and Jeremy Allen White. The logline for the film via Variety,
The evil Empire has fallen, and Imperial warlords remain scattered throughout the galaxy. As the fledgling New Republic works to protect everything the Rebellion fought for, they have enlisted the help of legendary Mandalorian bounty hunter Din Djarin (Pedro Pascal) and his young apprentice Grogu.
While we know that the story picks up after the fall of the Empire, with the New Republic trying to hold the galaxy together, what really got fans talking are the tiny details hidden in the trailer.
Like, fans are indeed excited to watch Din and Grogu, but it’s the subtle nods to past Star Wars films, deep lore connections, and clever references that got people all hyped. So, let’s break down every Easter egg you might have missed from the trailer.
The table contains basic details on The Mandalorian and Grogu:
1. Stormtroopers
Well, the very first thing that we notice in the trailer, apart from Din and Grogu’s iconic appearance, is Stormtroopers. 12 seconds into the trailer, The Mandalorian and Grogu show what seem like Stormtroopers guarding or occupying structures, and are part of large military movements, while walking with heavy equipment.
This scene appears after we see Din and Grogu spying from afar with tech-heavy binoculars, while hiding behind heaps of sand. The duo appears to be in the desert, while the Stormtroopers appear far away, securing the perimeters of a building.
But that’s the only scene throughout the trailer that promises the appearance of Stormtroopers in the film.
2. Sigourney Weaver
While Sigourney Weaver was confirmed to appear in The Mandalorian and Grogu, we finally got a glimpse of her in the trailer, who appeared to be a veteran pilot for the Rebel Alliance, who’s now serving as a colonel leading New Republic forces. Although she appears briefly in the trailer, it’s enough to raise fans’ expectations.
The trailer shows scenes where Din Djarin meets her, presumably during or after some combat or missions, since she is part of the New Republic military effort. So this Easter egg proved that Weaver has a prominent role, not just a cameo, and her role probably ties into the rebuilding of military power by the New Republic after the Empire’s fall.
3. Jeremy Allen White as Rotta the Hutt
Much like Sigourney Weaver, even Jeremy Allen White, the breakout star from The Bear, was confirmed to appear in the film. And turns out, he even appeared in the trailer, which showcased him as Rotta the Hutt, son of Jabba the Hutt. Fans of Star Wars know that Jabba is one of the galaxy’s most powerful gangsters, with influence in politics and the criminal underworld.
So naturally, his son is expected to play a similar role. Although the trailer offered a fleeting glimpse of White’s character, showing him in some kind of arena or big structure, we believe Rotta could play a significant role as a villain in the film, looking to bring the Hutt Clan back to prominence after his father’s fall. Whatever his role might be, it’s looking intense.
4. Baby Yoda Uses the Force
This one has to be the cutest Easter Egg ever. Right into the trailer, as we see Din Djarin and Grogu meet up with Sigourney Weaver’s character, for some important mission. But while Din continues his conversation with Weaver, we see Grogu noticing the bowl of nuts kept on the table.
And like a baby he is, Grogu uses the Force to pull the bowl towards him. But to his failed attempt, Weaver’s character notices his actions and puts her hand over the bowl and breaks the Force. For those unaware of what Grogu’s Force is: this Baby Yoda has strong telekinetic abilities, like Force pushing, pulling, and lifting objects and people.
So, in the trailer, we see Grogu use that very Force in the most diligent way to pull a bowl of nuts towards him.
5. Anzellan Alien Species
Yet another cute surprise that appeared in the trailer is the return of the tiny alien species known as Anzellans, the same race as Babu Frik from The Rise of Skywalker. Remember, the character who maintained a workshop where he worked as a black market droidsmith? Well, the species of his alien race appeared briefly in the trailer, flying a spacecraft.
Yep, in the trailer around the 48-second mark, a bunch of Anzellan appeared flying a tiny spacecraft with Grogu sitting tightly in the backseat. Looking exactly like the fan-favorite Babu Frik but with slight differences in appearance, these Anzellans (around 4 in number) heightened people’s curiosity.
Although it’s not known how big a role these cute creatures have, their limited cameo in the trailer was enough to connect past movies with this new adventure while giving fans an instant dose of nostalgia.
6. Zeb Orrelios
The trailer surprises with a look at Zeb Orrelios, the tough but lovable Lasat warrior from the animated series Star Wars Rebels. Although he has been briefly seen in live-action before, this is the first time he’s featured in a Star Wars movie trailer. Zeb appears in a stunning fight sequence, where he attacks a Stormtrooper.
His big frame and Bo-rifle stand out immediately, and his agility, which is spotted in Lasat Honor Guard matches, is his familiar animated counterpart. The moment feels like a natural continuation of his story after Rebels, where fans last saw him fighting with the Ghost crew.
Plus, given his previous live-action cameo in The Mandalorian S3, this trailer appearance proves that The Mandalorian and Grogu is set to be exciting.
7. AT-AT From Original Trilogy
One of the most epic moments in the trailer comes near the end, with the return of the AT-AT, the towering Imperial walker first seen in The Empire Strikes Back. In the new footage, we see three enormous AT-ATs walking by the side of a snowy mountain, one of which gets hampered from within.
Soon, the infiltrated AT-AT appears lumbering across a snowy mountainside, instantly calling back memories of the Battle of Hoth. This scene confirms that remnants of Imperial tech are still in use years after the Empire’s fall, making them a dangerous threat to the New Republic.
The AT-AT’s appearance is both a visual callback and proof that old weapons of war are still haunting the galaxy.
