The Housemaid First Look: Sydney Sweeney Gets Trapped in Brandon Sklenar’s Dark Mystery

Sydney Sweeney has been booked and busy as of late, and we can see why. The Euphoria bombshell has been working alongside Amanda Seyfried, Brandon Sklenar, and Michele Morrone in the book-to-film adaptation of the dark mystery, The Housemaid, based on Freida McFadden’s 2022 novel.

The news comes as People released the first official stills from The Housemaid, featuring Sweeney’s character, Millie Calloway, and Seyfried as Millie’s employer, Nina Winchester. Sklenar also appears in the images as Nina’s husband, and Morrone features as groundskeeper Enzo.

Meanwhile, although screenwriter Rebecca Sonnenshine shared with the outlet that the film is set to be a “faithful interpretation” of the book, she also mentioned that viewers must stay prepared for surprises. Additionally, director Paul Feig also said viewers will clutch their pearls over what they’ll see in the film.

Brandon Sklenar and Michele Morrone Discuss Their Unhinged Characters

While fans of the novel are currently going crazy over the first look at Paul Feig’s upcoming thriller, actors Brandon Sklenar and Michele Morrone have already shared their opinions on their characters and what to expect. Previously, speaking with Variety, Sklenar didn’t hold back when he noted that his character is “Norman Bates meets Patrick Bateman”.

While the character explanation already sounds like a chilling combo, Sklenar then went on to explain that the film is set to be dark, dramatic, and twisted, but not in a bloody or gory way. Rather more in a psychological sense. For him, stepping into such a role was a chance to let loose and show audiences just how unpredictable his character can be.

It’s very dark, dramatic [and] twisted. It’s not gory but it’s twisted. It’s out there for sure. I am a little unhinged. You very rarely get the opportunity to just let the cat out of the bag.

Meanwhile, Michele Morrone, best known for his work in the 365 Days movies, has taken on the role of Enzo, the family’s mysterious groundskeeper. So, discussing his character during the interview, Morrone admitted that Enzo is “a weirdo”, but that’s exactly why he loves the role. Overall, considering how he often chooses strange or unusual characters, this one fits perfectly.

I think the film is going to be very faithful to the book. That’s all I can actually say. I like to play weirdos as you know. But I’m proud of myself to be part of that project and being a weirdo!

Even though Morrone didn’t give away much about the story, he promised that The Housemaid will stay true to Freida McFadden’s novel. He also expressed pride in being part of the project, saying that playing quirky characters makes the job even more enjoyable. With both Sklenar and Morrone leaning into their “unhinged” roles, it seems audiences can expect an unpredictable ride.
