The Gloom is Expanding: Helldivers 2 New Major Order Forces Last Stand Against the Horrifying Terminid Onslaught

The failure of the previous Major Order in Helldivers 2 is having a much bigger impact than anyone anticipated. It seems our inability to secure critical samples from Oshaune has given the Terminids the upper hand. Now, the Gloom is expanding for the first time since its initial surge.

With this relentless attack comes unprovoked aggression from mutated Terminid strains. This is a critical moment for Super Earth, as the Helldivers’ new mission is to defend against seven attacks from the Terminids and prevent this infestation from spreading across the galaxy.

Helldivers 2′s New Major Order: Fighting Back Against an Unrelenting Swarm

The latest Major Order in Helldivers 2 tasks Helldivers with a single, high-stakes objective: defend against seven waves of Terminid assaults across the Gloom-adjacent planets. This isn’t just another routine extermination mission; it’s to defend and stop the relentless attack from the bugs.

To make matters worse, there are alarming reports that the Gloom itself is expanding, a phenomenon not seen since its original incursion. This suggests that the infestation is evolving and spreading once again, looking to pull more planets into the nightmare.

The briefing also mentioned that there are various unverified sightings of mutated Terminid strains on the regular planets, which were previously confined to the Gloom. This means that the Gloom is already showing its effect on other planets.

If we fail to maintain a defensive line now, the bugs will gain unstoppable momentum, potentially endangering the entire galaxy’s Freedom. This Major Order is about buying time.

Every attack we repel delays the enemy expansion and gives our forces a chance to regroup and adapt to this horrifying new threat. Maybe we learn new details about the Gloom that we didn’t know before.

How Did We Get Here? The Consequences of Failing on Oshaune

Our current predicament in Helldivers 2 can be traced back to the failed Major Order on Oshaune, a mission that was supposed to turn the tide of the galactic war and give us the knowledge about Terminids.

The objective was clear: collect critical Termind samples from deep within the Gloom. Those samples could have provided invaluable insights into how the bugs are mutating. But, unfortunately, the operation ended in disaster.

While the Helldivers fought heroically for Life and Liberty, the Gloom and its various mutated enemies were too much to handle, resulting in extraction quotas not being met.

While Hellmire and Outpost Alpha were held at great cost, we failed to analyze the evolving swarm. We thought that if we attacked the enemy’s home base, it would be content with holding its current territory, but we were wrong, and now it seeks to consume everything.

The coming 7 days of the current Major Order will be tough as enemies have turned the battle upside down. We thought we were forcing them into defense, but now we have to be defensive. Otherwise, the path to the Hive Worlds may close forever, and the galaxy could drown in the darkness of the Gloom.
