Is The Conjuring TV Series a Reboot?
While details still remain under wraps, it has been described as a continuation of the story established in The Conjuring movies. So it’s safe to say this will indeed not be a reboot, but the next step in the expansion of the IP.

It makes sense why the story is being brought to the small screen, similar to the forthcoming It show, which arrives on the streamer this fall. Considering how lucrative the IP has been for WB, with The Last Rites, despite its critical shortcomings, has become another major W in WB’s horror-dominated slate, it’s easy to see why the show is currently being fast-tracked.
Movie | Rotten Tomatoes | Box Office (So far) |
The Conjuring: Last Rites | 57% | $194M |
However, for fans hoping to see the iconic duo of Ed and Lorraine Warren, played by Patrick Wilson and Vera Farmiga, it seems pretty unlikely.
Will Patrick Wilson and Vera Farmiga Return in the HBO Max Series
While The Conjuring: Last Rites has once again highlighted the IP’s mass appeal, James Wan, who will produce the show with his Atomic Monster banner, has been vocal about not wanting to drive this franchise to the ground.

Having been involved with the IP since its inception, Wan felt this was the right time to conclude Ed and Lorraine Warren’s story, and given the reception to the story, it’s safe to say he was in the right.
We don’t want to be doing this 20 movies down the line, where we’ve driven the franchise into the ground. We love the idea that we’re going out with a big bang whilst everyone’s still loving the world
So, even if the story revolves around the mainline franchise, it’s highly unlikely the showrunner, especially with Wan involved, would rob the fourth movie of its original intent to suit the show.
It’ll be interesting to see where the universe heads next, as there are several stories to be told within the Conjuring universe.
