The $2 Donation That Changed IShowSpeed’s Life and Started the Cristiano Ronaldo Effect

Cristiano Ronaldo is a very important part of IShowSpeed‘s internet lore. He began as a gaming streamer in 2016 and acquired a substantial following on multiple platforms with his livestreaming content. His fans made him viral on social media by posting memes of the streamer’s often-violent outbursts. However, his content and fame elevated to a whole new level once he associated himself with Ronaldo.

It happened during one of IShowSpeed’s livestreams. A follower, with the user name Bradley, donated £1.79 (approx $2) towards his stream and asked him about his favorite footballer. Speed was quick to answer, “Cristiano Ronaldo, Siuuu!!” The streamer’s expression of the footballer’s famous goal celebration went viral.

Speed saw an opportunity there and doubled down on the love for the footballer. Some fans believe that Speed had little idea about soccer before the stream, but went on to shift the focus of his content to soccer-related based on that one viral video.

Fortunately, it worked for Speed, who is now known as the biggest Ronaldo fan out there. Speed later met this fan, who donated the two dollars and made him famous as a Ronaldo fan (via IShowSpeed / YouTube).

Speed’s focus on soccer led him to play several charity soccer matches, where he publicly showed his support for Ronaldo. He even sparked a few controversies, including throwing away a Lionel Messi jersey carried by a pitch invader.

IShowSpeed’s Love for Cristiano Ronaldo Ended in Him Meeting His Icon

IShowSpeed’s love for Cristiano Ronaldo came to a peak when he travelled to Qatar to catch the FIFA World Cup matches. He hoped to meet his idol in person during this visit. However, despite his best efforts (and a few controversies along the way!), he never got to meet Ronaldo at soccer’s biggest event that year.

But his dream finally came true when he met his icon after Portugal’s match against Bosnia and Herzegovina at Euro 2024. After Ronaldo won the match for his team (3-0), Speed met the footballer at the car park of the Estadio da Luz stadium. Ronaldo came out of his car to meet his biggest fan in the world.

Speed got emotional at the sight of the player and couldn’t control his excitement. He hugged Ronaldo and went on to take a photo with him. Ronaldo has since met Speed a couple of times, which undoubtedly became the best moments of the streamer’s life.

According to World Soccer Talk, Cristiano Ronaldo joined iShowSpeed’s Speed Gang community on X. Now, located at the top of the Speed Gang community is @ronaldobetter07. Speed commented from his secondary account, “My GOAT @Cristiano.” Fans hope that they can soon see a collaboration between these two.

The footballer has his own YouTube channel, UR Cristiano, where he uploads videos and podcasts. One of his recent podcast guests was MrBeast, who later commented on the possibility of Speed appearing in CR7’s channel. MrBeast told Clickbaited that he mentioned Speed to Ronaldo and that the footballer knew him.

He even shared some advice for the streamer, “Don’t cry. Don’t freak out. Don’t smell him. Definitely don’t bark at him.” Recently, FIFA President Gianni Infantino joined IShowSpeed’s livestream. Infantino unveiled the FIFA Club World Cup trophy on the stream in a room adorned with posters of Ronaldo.
