Taylor Swift’s The Life of a Showgirl Film: Runtime, Dates & Special Reveals

Taylor Swift‘s 12th Studio album, The Life of the Showgirl, is headed to theatres ahead. On Friday, September 19, 2025, at 12:12 PM, the pop icon announced that the movie about the album would be arriving in theaters for a limited run. Clocking at 89 minutes, the film will feature never-before-seen behind-the-scenes footage from the making of this album.

The caption on her post read:

Never before seen behind-the-scenes footage of how we made it, cut by cut explanations of what inspired this music, and the brand new lyric videos from my new album The Life of a Showgirl. Looks like it’s time to brush off that Eras Tour outfit or orange cardigan.

It’ll also feature the world premiere of the music video for the single The Fate of Ophelia this October at AMC theatres across the US.

Taylor Swift’s The Life of a Showgirl Heads to Theatres this Fall

Like the Eras Tour, the movie will premiere on the big screen in the wake of the Official Release Party on October 3. The event will conclude on October 5, costing $12, without taking booking fees into account.

This marks her second collaboration with AMC after the success of the Eras Tour, which tapped a whopping $261.7 million collection, becoming the highest-grossing concert movie of all time.

Even though the release window remains limited, with all the hype and a nearly feature-length release attached to her new album, it might not be too long before she directs a full-blown movie, which she intends to.

The Life of a Showgirl Movie Marks a Step Closer to Taylor Swift’s Directorial Ambitions

Having already marked her directorial debut with All Too Well: The Short Film, throughout her career, Swift has consistently gravitated toward storytelling through visuals, which is evident from her music videos.

Not only has The Life of a Showgirl Movie marked another prominent step in her filmmaking journey, but Swift will also helm the director’s chair for an untitled feature movie for Searchlight Pictures. Speaking of her ambitions behind the camera, Swift added (via Variety):

I’d love to keep taking baby steps forward. And I think that I’m at a place now where the next baby step is not a baby step. It would be committing to making a film. And I I feel like I would just absolutely love for the right opportunity to arise because I just absolutely, absolutely adore telling stories this way.

Serving as the project’s only screenwriter, although it has been three years since the partnership was announced and the details surrounding the movie remain scarce, hopefully, it won’t be long before she flaunts her directorial chops again.

The Life of a Showgirl movie will play in theatres from October 3-5 (USA).
