Sakamoto Days Live Action Movie Cast, Release Timeline and Everything We Know So Far

After the immense success of the Netflix anime adaptation, Sakamoto Days has been slated for a live-action movie. It was officially announced on September 22, 2025, in the 43rd issue of Shonen Jump magazine, with the series being the lead color page. Not many details were provided, except for the key visual.

The key visual shows Taro Sakamoto, the protagonist of Sakamoto Days, eating his usual cup of ramen while catching a bullet with his chopsticks. It’s quite accurate to what we’d expect from the series, but after the mixed reception the anime received, there isn’t much hope for a live-action to do any better. That being said, let’s discuss everything we know so far.

Sakamoto Days Live-Action: Release Date, Cast, and Who Will Be Directing?

The key visual for the Sakamoto Days live-action reveals that the movie will be released during Golden Week 2026. For those who aren’t familiar with the term, Golden Week is a holiday period in Japan, spanning from April 29 to May 6.

Thus, fans can expect the movie to be out in theatres during those dates. A set date hasn’t been announced yet. However, that’s not all. The live-action Sakamoto Days

won’t just be a single movie, but a two-part installation. We aren’t sure if both will be released during the same week or if the second one will be released later.

As for the cast of Sakamoto Days, only one has been announced, and it’s for Taro Sakamoto himself. Ren Meguro, a Japanese singer and actor who is a member of the idol group Snow Man, will be playing the protagonist. According to Weekly Women’s Prime Japan, despite his health issues in 2024, he won’t be slowing down anytime soon. The report also states that the filming is over.

Yuichi Fukuda is the director of the live-action. He has previously worked on other live-action films of the same tone as Sakamoto Days. Here’s a list of them:

Both Fukuda and Meguro are experts in live-action. The idol played Kiyoka Kudo in the live-action adaptation of My Happy Marriage titled As Long as We Both Shall Live. Meanwhile, the director seems familiar with how to bring out absurdist humor in dialogue, so Sakamoto Days is in capable hands. More details will be out on September 23, 2025.

Is Yuto Suzuki Taking a Huge Risk With the Live-Action Sakamoto Days?

The creator of Sakamoto Days, Yuto Suzuki, wrote a comment about his thoughts on the live-action and thanked fans. As reported by the Japanese entertainment news Natalie, he states:

SAKAMOTO DAYS is being made into a live-action movie!

Ever since I was in elementary school, I’ve always fantasized about what would happen if someone went on a rampage like this in a place like this in the real world. I’m so excited that it’s finally going to come to life on the big screen!

It’s all thanks to our readers who support us every day! Thank you so much! The production team is also super impressive, so I’m sure you’ll enjoy it! Be sure to go see it at the cinema!

Despite the optimistic words, the Netflix anime adaptation doesn’t give us much hope for another. If an animation failed to capture the action of his manga, how will a live-action? The movie could go down the spy thriller route, but if it includes the supernatural aspects, it might fail.

Overall, we are cautiously excited for the live-action Sakamoto Days movies. The anime let us down, so it’s best not to keep any high expectations just yet. What do you think of it being adapted into this format? Let us know your thoughts and predictions in the comments below!

Sakamoto Days can currently be streamed on Netflix.
