Russell Crowe’s shot at a second Academy Award for Best Actor might just be in danger because his recently released flick has disappointed critics. Of course, it’s not his fault that Nuremberg had a disappointing reception from critics, but the film did receive lower ratings than expected.
Following its teaser and the subsequent trailer launch at the Toronto International Film Festival (TIFF), fans were hyped about this psychological warfare between a Nazi war criminal and a U.S. psychiatrist.
However, 12 reviews from 12 critics seem to state that the film isn’t all that great. According to the review site, Rotten Tomatoes has given Nuremberg a rating of 50% based on 12 reviews from critics. So… where did the film go wrong?
What Went Wrong With Nuremberg?

Considering how hyped up the teaser was for Nuremberg, it is quite painful to write that the film received average reviews for the same.
The premise of the film followed a U.S. psychiatrist trying to determine the sanity of Herman Göring(a Nazi war criminal who was the commander-in-chief of the German Air Force) before his trial for the war crimes that he had committed.
What was supposed to be a fun psychological battle between an evil man and a psychiatrist falls flat on its face as Nuremberg allegedly is a pretty straight-on deal. According to critics, the characters and the storyline lacked the depth that was needed for a topic as heavy as this.
However, it seems that the film falls flat when it comes to showcasing depth. Reviewers note that the film is pretty straightforward with no complications in the tale that could probe the audience to see a little deeper. However, not all hope is lost.
Things Could Still Turn Around For Russell Crowe’s Second Oscar-Winning Shot

Although early critics argued that the film had a surprisingly low amount of depth, not all hope is lost for iconic star Russell Crowe to still have his shot at a second Oscar.
The reviews stated that the film featured some solid acting from Crowe as well as Rami Malek. One critic even stated that the film brings back memories of when Crowe would play a larger-than-life role like Maximus Decimus Meridius from Gladiator.
Naturally, even though the film arguably received poor ratings compared to expectations, there’s still hope for Russell Crowe to win his second Oscar.
Of course, as more reviews and fans watch the film, the Rotten Tomatoes score will also change, but at the moment, it’s not looking too good for Crowe and Malek at the moment.
