The gaming community is buzzing with excitement over Resident Evil Requiem, aka Resident Evil 9, especially after a recent leak supposedly showing an eyepatch Leon in-game. However, the hype was short-lived, as trusted insider AestheticGamer (Dusk Golem) confirmed the image was fake.
This leaves Leon’s return once again in doubt, but fans have not lost hope as they think Capcom might surprise them… even though everything points to him being a past character.
The Eyepatch Leon Kennedy Leak Fooled Everyone
The alleged leak first appeared on 4Chan and quickly spread to Reddit, where users shared the image like wildfire. The screenshot claimed that it was from in-game and showed Leon’s presence in the game, looking much older, battle-worn, and sporting an eyepatch.
This even started fueling theories that he might return in Resident Evil Requiem (Resident Evil 9) as a major supporting role alongside Grace Ashcroft (the new female protagonist), have some presence in the story, or, at worst, at least make a cameo.
I wasn't say anything since I don't like playing "debunk every leak" in a 20 questions way, especially when news is flowing in pretty steadily for Resident Evil Requiem already. And honestly I thought it was obvious, but yeah, that Leon eyepatch & two-headed Licker image is fake.
This leak, along with the idea of Leon’s comeback to the franchise, created major buzz and excitement among longtime fans. However, Dusk Golem stepped in and clarified that the screenshot was “doctored and completely fake.”
Although the debunk from the trusted insider has disappointed many fans, it’s also worth noting that Capcom has yet to come forward and straight-up confirm or deny any details about Leon’s potential involvement or mention in the game. So, cross your fingers, as we don’t know what the future holds.
Why Fans Can’t Stop Talking About Leon Kennedy
The viral nature of the leak just goes to show how popular Leon is and how much fans want to see him be part of the upcoming games. And it’s kind of justified, as Leon S. Kennedy has been a poster character of the franchise since his debut as a rookie cop in Resident Evil 2.
From his rocky start as an inexperienced officer to becoming a battle-hardened hero, he has cemented himself as one of the series’ most beloved protagonists. And who can forget his charm and those memorable one-liners? He perfectly embodies both the survival horror and the action-packed nature of the series.
Even with Capcom introducing a new protagonist like Grace Ashcroft, who can also be a great character to follow. But until proven, many fans will continue to hold Leon in high regard, hoping he might return in some capacity.
His legacy will forever be synonymous with the franchise. Thanks to this legacy, fans remain hopeful that, despite recent leaks being false, Leon may get his much-deserved spotlight in Resident Evil 9 or future installments (doesn’t matter how small).
