Real Reason Ronda Rousey Isn’t Returning to WWE

Is Ronda Rousey returning anytime soon to WWE? During an exclusive interview with Yahoo Sports, the former Women’s Champion clarified the speculations about her return to the wrestling promotion brand. She stated that she does not intend to return to in-ring action, especially after becoming a mother of two daughters, and would love to have more family time. Rousey said,

I just don’t think I could ever be on the road with the company again. I have two girls now, and hopefully we can have some more soon, I’d love that. And there’s just no room in my life to be able to maintain that lifestyle and a family at the same time.

She believes that she has “already accomplished everything” in the company, and there’s nothing left there to win. The only reason that could have compelled her to return was if her friends were there. Since Marina Shafir, Jessamyn Duke, and Shayna Baszler are not with the company anymore, she is not interested in returning at all.

WWE’s Underutilization of Ronda Rousey Left Her Disappointed

After making a name for herself in the Octagon, Ronda Rousey decided to make a name for herself in professional wrestling, which she did. Her WWE career commenced in 2018. Despite being active for a short period of time, she took the locker room by storm, becoming a two-time Women’s World Champion, a 1-time WWE Women’s Champion, and a 1-time WWE Women’s Tag Team Champion.

However, her growing frustration with Vince McMahon and the way she was booked in her matches left her annoyed. On September 2, 2025, Rousey appeared as a guest on The Lapsed Fan podcast, where she stated that during her first run in WWE, she was teased about being able to square off against her friends, but they never “let it happen.” She said,

I got into WWE because I wanted to be able to wrestle with my girls, you know, the Four Horsewomen, and be able to wrestle with my friends. And they kind of dangled that carrot for my whole run and never let it happen.

That was not all, because the 3 time Women’s World Champion mentioned that during her second run in the wrestling brand, her patience ran thin, stating that she would leave if she could not wrestle Shayna Baszler. Rousey added,

And then the second run, they kept dangling it, and then by the end, I was like, I’m f**king leaving unless I can wrestle with Shayna. And that’s how I was able to do it at all.

Her ultimatum led to her confrontation with Baszler at SummerSlam 2023, under MMA rules, where she was choked out by her opponent, concluding her WWE chapter.

Ronda Rousey has been part of several high-profile matches in WWE and has created history on many occasions. One such match was the first-ever WrestleMania main event with the three greatest women’s wrestlers in a winner-takes-all match at WrestleMania 35. The match featured Rousey, the RAW Women’s Champion, Charlotte Flair, the SmackDown Women’s Champion, and Becky Lynch.

The match kicked off strongly, with the three participants hungry to leave as the Undisputed Women’s Champion. The match had many epic moments, but it ended in a bout when Lynch picked up the win by pinning Rousey, despite her shoulders being off the mat. Appearing as a guest on the INSIGHT podcast, she stated how last-minute planning marred the overall outcome of the match. She said,

I didn’t think my shoulders were flat on the ground, so I was trying to scoot to get my shoulders flat because it’s so f**king loud I can’t hear anything, but that’s the difference between a match that got thrown together the night before and the debut match, which is a match that had been put together over weeks with tons of support and practice and opinions and everything.

Clearly, Rousey was sour over the decision, as she entered the Triple Threat match as one of the leading favorites to win the match and add another crown to her pro-wrestling career. Thus, adding to her growing frustration with WWE, she eventually parted ways with the company forever.
