The Fantastic Four is one of the several factions that will appear in Avengers: Doomsday. Even though their role in the multiversal battle against Doom remains shrouded in mystery, we may have a clue about their role in the story. When posed with the question of whether Marvel’s First Family will split up in the upcoming movie, The Cosmic Circus’ Alex Perez stressed it won’t happen until the end.
It’s important to note that the potential split-up in question wasn’t about the team disbanding. Instead, we might see the faction opting for a strategic division, something akin to the approach seen in Infinity Wars and Endgame. However, going by Perez’s comments, we might not see them part ways until the third act.
Avengers: Doomsday Might Finally Introduce the Council of Reeds
In addition to weighing on Doomsday‘s potential approach to Marvel’s First Family, Perez also claimed that we might see the Council of Reeds coming to fruition in the upcoming multiversal battle.
For the unversed, the Council of Reeds, originally conceived in Jonathan Hickman’s seminal 2009-12 run of Fantastic Four, sees different Mister Fantastics, across the multiverse, convening to solve everything. But in their quest, each Reed is forced to abandon their personal lives to commit to the council.
Considering Doomsday will kickstart the final stretch of the multiversal saga, Perez shared the possibility of the council being adapted for the big screen. Given that Pedro Pascal‘s Reed Richards is already familiar with the concept of the multiverse and will join the Avengers in their quest to take on Doom, it’d make sense for him to encounter the council.
Moreover, with Doomsday and Secret Wars banking heavily on legacy characters, it’d serve as the perfect opportunity to bring other iterations of the character, including Miles Teller, Ioan Gruffudd, and John Krasinski‘s Reed.
The Fantastic Four: First Steps Coming to VOD: Here’s What to Expect
Before jumping onto the multiversal bandwagon, Marvel’s First Family is gearing up for its digital release, set to arrive on VOD services on September 23 (via Rolling Stone). Although the movie hasn’t been the roaring success that the MCU was hoping for, it still pulled decent figures at a time when big-budget IP-driven releases don’t always guarantee hits.
In addition to being available for purchase and rent on different VOD services, including Apple TV, Amazon Prime Video, etc, fans will be able to pick the physical release from October 14, ranging from 4K UHD, Blu-ray, or DVD. As for the perks, the physical release will include exclusive behind-the-scenes content and deleted scenes, including the crew’s preparation ahead of the Ted Gilbert Show.
With The Fantastic Four: First Steps successfully ending the franchise’s disappointing run on the big screen, hopefully, their future will extend beyond the multiversal saga, set to be the most ambitious MCU project to date.
