In the fifth episode of Peacemaker season 2, we find Emilia (The Suicide Squad‘s Jennifer Holland) seated at Rick Flag Jr.’s (Joel Kinnaman) funeral. Dressed in black, she leans forward on the chair in front of her, staring at a photo of her best friend, with whom she shared an on-again, off-again physical relationship. Then, a man she knows all too well sits behind her.
It’s Rick Flag Sr. (Tulsa King’s Frank Grillo), who considers Emilia family because his son was in love with her. We’d like to believe he means it, but given how the General was buttering her up to reach Peacemaker, one has to wonder. He demands to know who killed his son, but Harcourt won’t say. She does, however, promise that whoever did will pay.

Emilia attacks Chris (John Cena) to save his life. How? When Harcourt texted him “Copasetic” to lure him to the park, it was actually code for stay away. Of course, Peacemaker shows up anyway. Somehow, no one in A.R.G.U.S. takes a shot as he sneaks through the park in broad daylight. Frankly, it’s hilarious watching Cena try to hide behind soccer moms.
Chris arrives at the park bench, with Flag, Fleury (SNL’s Tim Meadows), Sasha (Sol Rodríguez), Judo Master (Nhut Le), and the rest of the team watching from a distance. He asks Emilia if what happened on the boat meant anything to her. She says no, but by the laws of television, Emilia clearly does. As Chris is about to leave, heartbroken, the team moves in.

Smith grabs one of the agents, hoisting him over his shoulders. Judo Master strikes the agent with a tranquilizer dart, prompting Flag to warn him off—another direct hit could be fatal. Then Sasha, now an OMAC cyborg, activates the implant in her eye, draws her gun, and tells Flag she has only a 0.2% chance of missing. At that moment, Harcourt moves in, taking down Peacemaker and arresting him to save his life.

Flag releases Chris, intending to follow him back to the Quantum Fold. How? The General knows Economos (Creature Commandos’ Steve Agee) is secretly on Peacemaker’s side. Recall his earlier manipulation of Emilia at his son’s funeral and later in her apartment. Now, with Smith arrested and placed in the interrogation room, Flag begins beating him within an inch of his life.
Sasha confronts Harcourt for taking away her chance to kill the suspect. Meanwhile, Economos books Chris into the system, alerting the government that Peacemaker is in custody. When Sasha challenges him, he insists he’s just doing his job. Fleury reassures John that he did the right thing. Realizing the covert mission is blown, Sasha alerts Rick, and they release Chris.

Meanwhile, Adebayo (Danielle Brooks) and Chase (Freddie Stroma) are at the cabin, taking more of a backseat in this episode. They don’t realize that Red St. Wild (Michael Rooker) is nearby, hunting Eagley. Elsewhere, Flag admits to Sasha that he allowed Emilia to interfere with the mission and released Chris to track him back to the Quantum Fold. Sasha then flirts with Flag, who tells her to call him Rick.

You know, the one where he is considered a hero, is in a loving relationship with Harcourt, and his family, including Auggie (Reacher’s Robert Patrick) and Keith (Bosch: Legacy’s David Denman), are alive, and they are all best friends.

Red St. Wild kills the wrong eagle. In retaliation, Eagley leads a convocation of eagles in a brutal attack that kills him. Adebayo drops Chris off before he enters the dimension. Judo Master watches through the window, leaves Fleury a message, and follows him. When Adebayo returns, she finds the note he left behind. Finally, Emilia tells the group they’re going to bring Chris back.
