One Piece: Who Was the Traitor in the Rocks Pirates Who Betrayed Xebec at God Valley?

Spoiler Alert !!!
This chapter contains One Piece manga spoilers.

Ochoku or Wang Zhi of the Rocks Pirates has seemingly betrayed his captain, Rocks D. Xebec in One Piece chapter 1159. The beloved Shakuyaku was kidnapped by Figarland Garling, and while everyone was lamenting her loss, Ochoku was seen counting money. Therefore, it’s safe to assume that he’s the traitor within the Rocks Pirates.

Rocks’ crew seems oblivious to his betrayal, and they are headed to God Valley. This reveal redefines the Rocky Port Incident, which was previously under Ochoku. This makes one wonder how much Blackbeard knows about Rocks. But first, what do we know about Ochoku so far?

Ochoku Is All but Confirmed to Be the Traitor in One Piece Chapter 1159

Ochoku was introduced during chapter 1155 with the rest of the members of Rocks D. Xebec’s crew. In the recent chapter, when Shakky was kidnapped, pirates around the world were saddened by her absence. The Rocks Pirates were eager to rescue her, except for Ochoku. He was even seen counting money and voiced the possibility of the God Valley incident being a trap.

There are some signs that all but confirm that Ochoku is somehow guilty of Shakky’s abduction. Before Rocks’ flashback, Ochoku was mentioned by Sengoku as a strong pirate. He was also a part of the Rocky Port Incident. Hachinosu was under him before Blackbeard defeated him with Koby in One Piece.

Blackbeard struggled a little bit against Ochoku and had to take Koby’s help. The exact details of Koby and Blackbeard’s collaboration are not known, except for the fact that Blackbeard wanted to take him down, whereas Koby wanted to protect the civilians during Blackbeard’s battle with Ochoku.

That gives us a good idea of his strength, as Blackbeard, even with multiple Devil Fruits, couldn’t take him down easily. Beyond greed, it’s unknown if he had any other reasons for selling out Shakky. This is all the information we know about Ochoku so far, but his betrayal makes Blackbeard’s control over Hachinosu more interesting.

Does This Reveal Recontextualize the Rocky Port Incident?

Most of the things that Blackbeard has done so far in One Piece have been evil. He’s power-hungry and doesn’t mind using twisted ways to get what he desires. It makes one wonder if Blackbeard’s actions on Hachinosu were driven by vengeance. It’s possible that he might be trying to reclaim Rocks’ legacy in One Piece.

This makes his character more complex and interesting. Also, the fact that Ochoku was still alive and well enough to rule Hachinosu raises some more questions: Did Rocks never find out about Ochoku’s betrayal, or did he just decide to let him go?

Ochoku has shaken the pirate world in the flashback. It’ll be disappointing to find out that he doesn’t face any consequences. What do you think of Ochoku so far? How has his introduction affected your views of the Rocky Port Incident and Blackbeard? Share your thoughts in the comments.
