Fans have been commenting on Zac Efron‘s jawline ever since 2021. They noticed a completely different look around The Iron Claw actor’s jawline and speculated that he had undergone plastic surgery. The speculations started after his appearance on Bill Nye’s Earth Day Musical special in April 2021.
The discussions came up recently after his appearance in the Netflix film, A Family Affair. Many fans commented that he looked older with his significantly altered chin. However, Efron had clarified why his jawline looked different at the time.
Efron clarified that the change in his chin area was attributed to a dangerous jaw injury in 2013. He shared with Men’s Health that he was running through his house in his socks when he slipped and smacked his chin on the granite corner of a fountain. He said that he lost consciousness, and when he woke up, his chin bone was hanging off his face.
He shared that he had been undergoing physical therapy ever since to rehabilitate the injury. However, around the time of his appearance on Bill Nye’s special, he stopped attending PT. He shared that some of the masseter muscles in his face had to compensate for the others, which are not fully healthy.
He shared, “The masseters just grew. They just got really, really big.” He addressed the rumors surrounding his chin, which included plastic surgery allegations. He shared:
If I valued what other people thought of me to the extent that they may think I do, I definitely wouldn’t be able to do this work.
He earlier called the rumors funny and shared that his mom told him about them. He told ET, “It was funny. It sucks. I almost died, but we’re good.” Efron went from his teen sensation days as Troy Bolton in High School Musical to portraying Playboy roles in comedies, eventually moving on to more dramatic roles. Fans were shocked to see his roles in Extremely Wicked, Shockingly Evil and Vile and The Iron Claw.
Zac Efron’s Alleged Prada Ad Brought Attention Back to His Jawline
The internet’s obsession with Zac Efron’s face continues with a supposed Prada ad, which featured him in a completely different look. In the ad, his face looks red and his lips look swollen. Fans took turns mocking the actor, not knowing that the entire ad was fake.
A Facebook account called The Celeb Talk Girl posted the photo, sharing, “Zac Efron x Prada drop their disco-inspired ‘Saturday Night Fever’ line…” However, this collaboration never happened, and the bio of the page clearly stated that the creator behind this page did parodies and satire.

The page also had another photo of the actor in a similar look. It appears that the page tried to cash in on the unnecessary attention that Efron got for his jawline in recent years.
Zac Efron’s Baywatch Transformation Almost Destroyed Him
In an October 2022 interview with Men’s Health, Zac Efron opened up about how one movie pushed him too far. He had to undergo a massive physical transformation for his 2017 film, Baywatch, where he looked ripped. He shared that it caused him insomnia and depression. He shared:
I started to develop insomnia, and I fell into a pretty bad depression, for a long time. Something about that experience burned me out. I had a really hard time recentering.
He shared that he was hooked up on “too many diuretics for way too long” for his physical transformation. He shared that these drugs “messed something up.” He shared that he was able to come out of it completely by 2022. He shared:
That Baywatch look, I don’t know if that’s really attainable. There’s just too little water in the skin. Like, it’s fake; it looks CGI’d. And that required Lasix, a powerful diuretic, to achieve. So I don’t need to do that. I much prefer to have an extra, you know, 2 to 3 percent body fat.
He shared that it was a dream of his to achieve a body that is “in shape all the time.” However, the entire experience didn’t turn out to be such a dream after all. He shared, “And for all the reasons I thought it would be incredible, I was just miserable. My body would not feel healthy; I just didn’t feel alive. I felt bogged down and slow.”
He shared during an episode of Hot Ones that he regretted his Baywatch body. He called it “stupid” and “not real”, while adding, “Take care of your heart, take care of your brain, you’re good.” It appears that Efron went down a different transformation route when he appeared in The Iron Claw.
