Man of Tomorrow: James Gunn‘s Sequel Update Is Best News for Fans Who Didn’t Enjoy Superman

With the resounding success and fame that James Gunn’s Superman found after its release, the director couldn’t help but reveal his plans for an indirect sequel to the 2025 movie.

During his talk with The Ringer-Verse, Gunn talked about his plans for the upcoming Man of Tomorrow. Praising Lex Luthor for almost everything, Gunn stated that the upcoming movie will focus more on the characters of Lex Luthor and Superman rather than the humor scenes.

‘Superman’ is more comic booky in some ways than ‘Man of Tomorrow’. It has to do with the dual characters of Lex and Superman at the center.

Casual moviegoers complained that the film relied too much on the comic book part and that they wouldn’t know about the Justice Society Hall of Fame or Guy Gardner without some earlier help. However, James Gunn’s Man of Tomorrow

might rectify that mistake.

James Gunn Will Rectify Superman’s Biggest Complaint in Sequel

Well, the complaint is simple, really, casual moviegoers did not enjoy the excessive comic-related talks much like how the MCU keeps itself separate from Marvel Comics.

Gunn’s earlier movies in the MCU, namely Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 1, Vol. 2, and Vol. 3, never had that problem from fans. However, it felt like Gunn spent a lot of time trying to set the stage for his DC Universe and not enough time building a bond with Superman or giving depth to the Justice Gang.

However, his comments might seem to hint that Gunn will probably rectify that mistake for the upcoming sequel.

What Does James Gunn’s Comment Mean For the DCU?

Instead of just a singular hero in sight, Man of Tomorrow will focus on two protagonists, namely Superman and Lex Luthor. The shift in tonality for the upcoming sequel hints that James Gunn is preparing to take a more philosophical approach rather than a straightforward storytelling.

The upcoming film will likely focus more on the characters rather than the grandiose spectacle of the story. Of course, the classic Gunn’s sense of humor will remain in the movie, but don’t count on it completely.

Similar to Gunn’s earlier works, Man of Tomorrow will derive from the comic books but will probably have a modern twist attached to it, much like Peacemaker and The Suicide Squad. Whatever the case may be, one thing that can be said for certain is that it is going to be epic.
