John Cena’s First Statement After Losing to Brock Lesnar Seems Like a Request to Triple H

Did John Cena send his first public message to Triple H? On September 21, 2025, ‘The Prototype’ took to his social media (@johncena), sharing an image of ‘The Rated-R Superstar,’ Edge, making his WWE entrance with the Rated-R Spinner Belt. Check out the post below:

The image appears to be another one of his cryptic posts, where fans must figure out the answer themselves. However, this time, such was not the case, as every fan knew what Cena wanted: a match against his old rival for one last time. The WWE Universe would love to see the two lock horns against each other.

In the past couple of weeks, Cena tried his best impersonation to deliver a Rated-R Spear, and last night, Edge gave a tribute to ‘The GOAT.’ Though it still remains unclear who will be John Cena’s next opponent, it will be interesting if Paul Levesque manages to pull strings from behind the scenes and bring back the 5-time IC Champion to WWE.

John Cena vs. Edge Could Make Up for Wrestlepalooza’s Poor Booking

The WWE Universe was thrilled to witness the WWE-ESPN era with Wrestlepalooza. However, the premium live event was a massive flop, where each match got the fans more and more disappointed, especially the kick-off match, featuring John Cena and Brock Lesnar. Fans were thrilled to witness the two titans of WWE, where, in typical ‘The Beast Incarnate’ fashion, Lesnar annihilated Cena with six F5s before pinning him, and a seventh after he won the match.

Since WWE has upset the Cenation fans, Triple H should try to bring Edge back to the company again as a potential rival for John Cena. The idea will be a huge success, and it will give the newer generation fans a glimpse of what the feud between these two wrestlers looked like in their prime and how their idol was a menace not only in the ring but also on the mic.

Additionally, ‘The Last Real Champion’s’ farewell tour has been subpar, where at first it was marred by an unconvincing heel turn and then by taking massive losses that dent his WWE legacy. The CCO must find a perfect opponent for Cena, but more importantly, he must give fans a convincing yet layered storyline to make his next match worth watching.

Now, if we connect the dots, all these boxes are filled by Adam Copeland, whose return would mean that fans would be eager to watch the weekly segments before they lock horns at a major PPV.

Edge Clears the Air About His Current AEW Contract

On paper, the idea of a John Cena versus Edge in a WWE PPV sounds intriguing, but in reality, things are much more complicated. After all, he is currently under a contract with All Elite Wrestling and has been a pretty important name in the success of the budding wrestling brand, winning the AEW TNT Championship twice.

Moreover, the idea of his return looks grim after WWE did not file for a trademark on Edge’s name, but the real blow came from Copeland. On May 9, 2024, Edge appeared as a guest on the INSIGHT podcast, where he described the length of his current AEW contract. He said,

I have about a year and a half left right now. A lot of business trying to get done in that time, there’s a lot of people I want to work with in that time, and I look at it already and I think in the six months I’ve been there, I think I’m close to 20 matches already.

It has been over a year since his last comments, and if we calculate the time, it comes to November, a month ahead of Cena’s final match in WWE. Hence, this gives a glimmer of hope to the fans that they might get to see a rematch between the two greats of The Ruthless Aggression Era.
