Weapons director Zach Cregger is rolling in fame because of his work in the recently released horror flick. The director is quite confident about his Batman project, and he is confident that James Gunn, the co-creator of DC Studios, will eventually greenlight the film.
In an interview with ScreenRant, Zach Cregger opened up about the script that he had written for the DC Universe (not DCU). Although he hasn’t pitched the idea, Cregger is hopeful (and equally confident) that the story is indeed… awesome.
I don’t think it’s going to be this year or next year or probably the year after. It’s a great story, I got to say. I think it is awesome. So I hope we all get to experience it one day. That would be great.
Well, there are bigger fish roaming in the DCU at the moment, and that is part of the reason why Zach Cregger is holding onto his script for dear life. The director admitted that there’s a lot going on in the cinematic universe, and he doesn’t want to be a part of the messy side of things.
Zach Cregger is Waiting for the Right Moment for His DCU Script
As the interview continued, Cregger revealed that the playing field was too crowded for him. With James Gunn trying to make the DCU sensible and Matt Reeves busy with the development of The Batman 2,
Cregger admitted that he will wait when the time is right to share the script and “leave it to the universe”. The director also shared that it probably won’t be this year or next year.
That Gotham City IP is the most coveted thing. And right now, there’s a lot of people that have their own kind of flavor. You’ve got Matt Reeves and what he’s doing with it, and you’ve got James Gunn and his DC universe – there’s just all this stuff.
Cregger also revealed that he is not sure where his script fits: In James Gunn’s DCU or Matt Reeves’ Reevesverse.
I don’t think it really fits into any of that.
However, considering the gist of things, at the moment, we think that Zach Cregger’s script would be better suited for Matt Reeves’ Reevesverse rather than Gunn’s DCU.
James Gunn or Matt Reeves: Which Universe Should Zach Cregger Choose for Henchmen Project?
Lots of choices and too few to choose from. Zach Cregger will indeed have a tough decision to make when he wants to develop his dream Batman project. Choosing between James Gunn’s DCU or Matt Reeves’ Reevesverse could be one of the toughest things that Cregger might not be looking forward to in the future.
However, considering the gist of things at the moment, it seems that Cregger’s Batman script would be better suited for Matt Reeves’ universe. According to THR, the script is allegedly based on a low-level criminal in Gotham City who becomes notorious when he incapacitates Batman through sheer luck.
According to the report, Batman will be in a brief cameo role in the movie alongside Harley Quinn and the Joker. James Gunn’s DCU does not have a Batman at the moment. No Batman means no Joker and thus, no story.
In the Reevesverse, however, there is a Batman (Robert Pattinson), and there was also the Riddler. With Zach Cregger’s script potentially being a part of the Reevesverse, we might even get to see a connection in the cinematic universe. Plus, Zach Cregger’s script would be a great way to introduce the Joker and Harley Quinn in the Reevesverse, too!
Alongside the storyline, Cregger is a director who prefers dark morals. The DCU is a stark contrast with bright colors and quirky tactics, while Cregger is a slow-burning horror fanatic, which adds one more point to the Reeves side.
