Hilary Swank’s “Tone Deaf” Post on Affording an MRI Machine is Going Viral But For All the Wrong Reasons

Hilary Swank is doing no favors to her reputation with her latest Instagram post. She flexed her new MRI machine, which shared that she was “blessed to be gifted.” The machine, from Prenuvo, was probably part of some endorsement deal between Swank and the company. She shared that the machine could allegedly catch “a multitude of nasty things”.

Swank then went on to preach about the need for a good exercise and diet system, even challenging her followers to “find a study that shows refined sugars and processed chemicals don’t have a negative impact on our systems.” She then suggested that complaining about health invoked negative emotions and, in turn, caused disease.

At the end of her short essay on health, she encouraged her followers “who could afford one of these very cool MRI scans” to buy it with her promo code. Many of her followers may not appreciate her tone when she suggested the remedies for those who can’t afford the MRI machine: “Get off your butt, eat well, and count your blessings.”

And her followers weren’t impressed. Fans were quick to point out how tone deaf the post came across. While some could see that she meant well, even those fans agreed that she bragged a little about the privilege she had. Some of the comments under her post read:

This is so ICK. If you can’t afford it, thoughts and prayers lol. Tone def 101.

This is the very definition of tone deaf. I know she means well but come on, bragging about your privilege and then saying if you can’t afford it eat well and exercise?

If you can’t afford early detection, then just hope for the best with diet and exercise – that’s all you’ve got peasants.

It’s not just tone def, it’s literally medically negligent and unnecessary- have fun getting million dollar work-ups done for incidental findings that don’t actually impact your health.

how incredibly out of touch

As she preaches she’s paid millions for doing the advertising.. no emotions

Well, the fan comments suggest that this didn’t turn out well for Swank. As her recent comments indicate, the Million Dollar Baby actress is very health-conscious as she entered her 50s. Fans also suggest that a social media team could be behind this tone deaf post from the actress.

Hilary Swank Opened Up About Her Diet and Exercise Routine Earlier This Year

During an interview with Women’s Health earlier in April, Hilary Swank shared her diet and fitness secrets. She shared that she still found time for regular exercise, despite turning 50, managing work, and looking after her twin toddlers.

She shared that tennis and Pilates were her two go-to workout routines. She shared that tennis helped her with strength training. Swank also added that she loved lifting. She told the outlet:

Right now, my go-to is tennis and Pilates. Tennis is a big thing. I used to do three days a week of strength training. For me, I love lifting. It just makes me feel really grounded in my body

She is reportedly building a gym inside the garage of her home. Swank revealed that she doesn’t consume any dairy products, and her meat consumption is also very little. She shared, “I eat fish, and my neighbors hunt elk, and I do eat some of that.” She also added about her diet:

It’s one of the key things I keep in mind eating to fuel your body, what makes you feel good and what gives you energy.

Her diet plan looked somewhat like this:

She also shared that she had to put a stop to exercising when she became a mom. She shared, “Exercising took a back seat for a little while.” However, she was back on routine soon. She added, “But even with the babies, when they’re napping, I have those three hours to get my exercise in and read a script or take a meeting or do an interview.”

Swank’s last film project was the Christian film, Ordinary Angels. She recently made a guest appearance in the Showtime thriller, Yellowjackets.

Hilary Swank’s Net Worth: How Was She Able to Afford a MRI Machine

Hilary Swank didn’t come to the industry from a rich background. There was a time when the industry didn’t pay her right, and she definitely couldn’t afford an MRI machine. When she was cast for the role of Brandon Teena in Boys Don’t Cry, she was a prominent star who appeared in the Karate Kid franchise.

However, it didn’t help her case when it came to the salary for her role. Swank was paid only $3000 for her Oscar-winning role. She once told PEOPLE that she didn’t have health insurance at the time because she wasn’t meeting the minimum limit of $5000 from her film. She shared:

So when I did Boys Don’t Cry, I was 24 years old. I made $3,000. In order to have health insurance, you have to make $5,000. So I didn’t even know that I didn’t have health insurance until I went and tried to get a prescription filled. They said, ‘That’s $160.’ I went, ‘Um, did you try my insurance?’ They said, ‘Mmm-hmm.’ I had an Academy Award, no health insurance.

Her talent earned her more substantial roles with higher pay soon enough. She went on to bag another Oscar for the Clint Eastwood film, Million Dollar Baby. Swank went on to make a $70 million fortune from her career (via Celebrity Net Worth).

The 48-year-old actress has also delved into entrepreneurship and co-founded the production company 2S Films with producer Molly Smith. Swank launched her high-quality women’s wear brand called Mission Statement, focusing on the themes of sustainable clothing and women’s empowerment.

She also gained considerable income from brand promotions. In 2006, Swank became the brand ambassador for Insolence, a fresh fragrance launched by Guerlain.

The Amelia star has also made profitable real estate investments. She sold a townhome in Manhattan in 2008 for over $7 million. Swank made some huge profits on a property in Pacific Palisades she had acquired in 2007 for $5.8 million. She sold the property in 2021 for an impressive $10.5 million.
