Helldivers 2 Players Accuse Arrowhead of Ruining the Game With Dumbed-Down Enemies

The average gamer might think that Helldivers 2 is all about democracy and inside jokes. But no, it’s one of the best Action games out there, and part of it is because Arrowhead Game Studios gave us some of the most well-designed enemies. Well, up until now, because players now claim that the new enemies are oversimplified.

Since the Into the Unjust update at the start of this month, we’ve gotten new enemies like the War Strider, Dragonroach, and Fleshmob in the game. And boy, have these new enemies become the center of criticism. The biggest question now is: Is Helldivers 2 losing the depth that made it special?

The Enemies in Helldivers 2 Have Gone From Fun Puzzles to DPS Checks

Players are arguing that Helldivers 2’s best enemies used to feel like “mini-puzzles.” The old Automaton enemies, like the Hulk, were heavily armored but came with exploitable weak points. We could shoot out its eye, destroy its rear vents, cripple its legs, or disarm its weapon systems.

My problem with the update is that the new enemies are designed in such a way that you have to bring specific equipment and force you into a certain playstyle. Of course, new players dont have these things and are put into a meatgrinder with no answer to the new enemies. (1/2)

And even on the Terminid side of things, the Bile Titans could be taken down strategically by targeting their bile sacs or exposed flesh. This kind of enemy design made it so we could experiment with every weapon, from medium-penetration rifles to heavy explosives.

In comparison, the more recent additions like the Dragonroach and War Strider have been labeled as oversimplified by players. Helldivers have noticed how the Dragonroach, War Strider, and Fleshmob lack meaningful weak points, forcing us into the same loadouts over and over again.

Arrowhead Has a Growing List of Problems With the Game

This issue isn’t just felt during combat. From what we’re seeing, the simplicity of these enemies is actively hurting build variety. For example, the latest Major Order gave us a break from the Terminid missions and sent us to fight the Automatons with some new bot enemies.

Too much glazing

We love new recuirts but AH recently drop new enemies

Of all of them 2 are the most annoying and broken but one stood out the most

Which is the rupture warrior, sure every glazing driver can just tell "loWer DiFFiculties" or "uSe Explosive"

hear me out

But with the new enemies, anti-tank weapons like the Recoilless Rifle and Quasar Cannon are becoming nearly mandatory. And it’s not like we’re saying that these enemies need to be weaker. Quite the opposite, in fact. We want them to be designed smarter, like they were before.

There are already fan suggestions like making the War Strider’s eye a true weak point that blinds it when destroyed, forcing the Dragonroach to crash if its wings are shredded, or causing Fleshmobs to stagger and slow when their legs are targeted.

Arrowhead has shown before that it can recover from rocky patches, but just how long are we willing to wait? The game’s review score on Steam has already dipped, and this is the last thing we needed after the recent success of the Xbox launch.
