Harry Potter’s First Female Voldemort: This MCU Villain Actress Is Destined For the Role

Industry insider Daniel Richtman revealed in a scoop that the upcoming Harry Potter series will possibly feature a female Voldemort. This may come as a shock to many fans, perhaps a huge bombshell for J.K. Rowling, but if HBO manages to cast an actress who is well-versed in portraying villains, then the gender-swapped role could work.

When it comes to female antagonists, MCU alum Cate Blanchett immediately comes to mind. Her flawless portrayal of Hela in Thor: Ragnarok, along with her other epic movie villain roles, is enough reason why she’s the most suited actress for the job.

Cate Blanchett’s Iconic Villain Portrayals Have Never Disappointed Fans

The Australian star is globally recognized for playing the first female villain of the MCU. From portraying straight-up wicked, evil characters to morally grey and complex figures, Blanchett does not need much preparation, as the talent and skill are already embedded in her.

In her interview with GQ, she said Marvel Studios isn’t used to having a whole script, with the process pretty much only involving the essential battles, and from there they would work backwards, figuring out the stories as they go. Despite this, Blanchett managed to make Hela a menacing figure and one of the most unforgettable MCU villains in Thor: Ragnarok.

Apart from the ruthless Asgardian killer, Blanchett’s performances in 2021’s Nightmare Alley as Lilith Ritter and 2015’s Cinderella as The Stepmother were also heavily praised by fans and critics, cementing her status as a Hollywood chameleon.

Why Cate Blanchett Is The Perfect Voldemort for HBO’s Harry Potter

HBO’s Harry Potter could benefit from casting an experienced actress like Blanchett for the role of Voldemort. A legacy character like him should be handled with utmost attention to detail, and if Blanchett could portray Hela with only a little script information, she would definitely outperform that with her role as Voldemort.

Blanchett’s lengthy experience in screen and stage has prepared her for heavyweight roles like the Dark Lord. Moreover, it would be an exciting prospect to look forward to how a female Voldemort could shake things up within the Harry Potter lore.

Furthermore, Rowling is heavily involved in the upcoming series, even though she hasn’t mentioned anything yet regarding a potential gender-swapped Voldemort. The project, though, is already riddled with controversies regarding a race-swapped character, and this rumor about casting a female Voldemort is yet to be confirmed.
