The Now You See Me: Now You Don’t trailer dropped a few months ago, and the movie is lined up for a November 2025 release. Yet, while the Four Horsemen are going on another heist, viewers can’t help but notice the glaring omission of Lizzy Caplan.
She played Lula in Now You See Me 2, and is nowhere to be seen in the third installment’s trailers, promotions, etc. Now You See Me: Now You Don’t will be directed by Ruben Fleischer and brings back Jesse Eisenberg, Woody Harrelson, Dave Franco, Isla Fisher, and Morgan Freeman, alongside new additions like Ariana Greenblatt and Rosamund Pike, who’ll play the main antagonist.
But fans of the franchise are asking: Where is Lula? So, was Caplan only a replacement for Isla Fisher’s character? Let’s find out!
Will Lizzy Caplan Star Alongside Isla Fisher in Now You See Me: Now You Don’t
Lizzy Caplan joined the franchise in Now You See Me 2 when Isla Fisher had to step away due to her pregnancy (via Business Insider). The latter’s absence was a big shift because she was an original Horseman and also a fan favorite.
But Caplan’s Lula was a fiery recruit who had great chemistry with Dave Franco’s character. In Now You See Me: Now You Don’t, Fisher is back with the cast, and her return is celebrated, but it poses the awkward question of whether Caplan’s role was only temporary.
When asked about her return in a February 2025 interview with ScreenRant, Caplan had an unexpected response, and she said, “I don’t know.” Her replies seemed to be clueless because she wasn’t even aware of the fall release and the production’s end.
Is Now You See Me: Now You Don’t Hiding Lizzy Caplan’s Return?
Lizzy Caplan’s comments are a bit odd. On one hand, she might be genuinely out of the loop, or it could be classic Hollywood misdirection to hide a big reveal. We all know that the Now You See Me movies thrive on twists.
Remember when Michael Caine’s Arthur Tressler reappeared in Now You See Me 2 as the secondary antagonist? It wouldn’t be surprising if they did something similar with Lula. Another angle (and quite a sad one) is that she was entirely sidelined once the producers were able to bring back Isla Fisher for the third installment.
Here’s an overview of both parts:
If Caplan was indeed a placeholder, it’s disappointing, considering how well she gelled with the group. But what do you think? Does her absence in the trailer and promotional material truly suggest that she won’t be back?
Now You See Me: Now You Don’t will release in theaters on November 14, 2025 (USA).
