Fact Check: Is One Piece Trailing Behind in Terms of Viewership?

While it may seem like this season is jam-packed with some amazing anime titles broadcasting at once, One Piece has still managed to remain in the top 10 position on streaming. According to Anime by the Numbers, the total viewership count for the animated series was around 28 million hours on Netflix in June 2025.

Therefore, it’s safe to say that the hype around the series has been more than stellar, as it’s competing with new titles and still beating them. But one little speck of discord on the IP created by Eiichiro Oda is with the recent Egghead Arc, which has generated a little discontent among the fans.

Is One Piece’s Egghead Arc Failing?

The simple answer to the question is no, as it’s in fact soaring high with stellar scores on IMDb, w ith Episodes 1127–1137 all receiving numbers above 9/10. Even reviews of each episode are calling it one of the best arcs so far, in part because of Kuma’s sentimental backstory.

The only valid issues that the community is being vocal about are the apparent problems of pacing, especially during the flashback of Kuma and Bonney. It has been stated to be off in some places in the narration, while in others, it has been dragged longer than it was necessary.

Still, the majority of the fandom is extremely positive about the performance of the Egghead Arc, which is due to its trademarked strong world-building and sentimental pay-offs. Added to it are the amazing action scenes and familiar goofiness that have managed to keep this arc in the series so high in the air, despite minor setbacks.

Netflix’s One Piece Was a Gamble That Paid Off

A strong factor that pushed the popularity of the anime into the stratosphere is the release of Netflix’s One Piece live-action series, which proved to be one of the biggest live-action adaptation hits in anime history. In Netflix’s What We Watched Report, the total number of views in the second half of 2023 was around 72 million, with a total of 541 million hours watched.

Therefore, those who weren’t aware of the anime, or who didn’t watch anime at all, were easily drawn to the live-action, which was distributed into an 8-episode palette, easily digestible to anyone new to the IP. And with the bonus of the show impressing even the very diehard anime purists, it was bound to bring eyes to the anime and manga eventually.

Lastly, the very hands-on approach of Mangaka Eiichiro Oda was one of the key reasons for the success of the series, where his guidance and input made the show a rarely-seen live-action success. Below is a table providing more details on the Netflix series.
