With season 3 of Sylvester Stallone‘s Tulsa King, Annabella Sciorra joined Jay Will and Martin Starr in an exclusive interview with Fandomwire to discuss their stint in the Paramount series. Sciorra, who plays Dwight’s sister Joanne, was promoted from recurring figure in season 1 to a series mainstay in the following. According to Sciorra, Stallone himself asked her to become a regular, something the actor had never experienced before.
I’ve never done a I’ve never been a regular on a TV show before and I I didn’t know what that process was and it’s it’s fun to go from Joanne’s sister, you know, Dwight his brother dies, and… then to be asked back. But in that first season, you know, Sly came to me. He said “you’re going to come to Tulsa too”. I was like “really”, and he made… it happened and I was very happy that happened
Joanne’s growth from being a maternal figure in Tina’s life to becoming the voice of reason for Dwight’s growing crime empire has been one of the show’s more compelling arcs. And in the forthcoming season, she’ll have some major shoes to fill as Dwight’s rise intensifies.
What Annabella Sciorra’s Comment Means For Joanne’s Future in Tulsa King Season 3
After starting as a recurring character who stood up for the family amid Dwight’s absence, she eventually got involved with her brother’s business. In the show, Joanne isn’t a yes person and hasn’t shied away from calling out her brother, even becoming an asset in the character’s growing cannabis venture in the process.
As for what to expect from season 3, according to Sciorra, her character will be working more intimately with the crime empire.
Sciorra revealed that in season 3, Joanne will fully embrace her role in the business and take on the responsibilities that come with it.
I I think this season she really becomes invol you know she’s not just cooking and at home she really becomes involved in the business and um and um you know has a lot of responsibility and takes it very seriously.
Considering the ending in season 2, which hinted at bigger troubles than just competing with the rival families for Dwight, it’d make sense for Joanne to take the reins while he figures things out.
Tulsa King Season 3 Can Redeem Its Most Undercooked Villain
Even though Tulsa King season 2 was another entertaining season of television, it had its fair share of flaws, especially when compared to its predecessor. But among all its issues, the biggest letdown was how it treated Neal McDonough‘s Thresher.
While introduced as the fierce force that ruled Tulsa before Dwight’s arrival, season 2 doesn’t exactly succeed in portraying it as formidable. From his glaring lack of muscle to having no agency in the story, the character is best described as wasted potential, which is a shame, as McDonough can be an intense antagonist with the right material.
However, there’s hope that season 3 can redeem the character after Dwight spares him in season 2, as McDonough confirmed (via Collider) he’ll play the governor of Oklahoma in season 3, an idea he proposed to the writers.
Now I play the governor on this season of Tulsa King. We were with David Glasser [executive producer] last year, and everybody said, ‘Tell him your idea. Tell him your idea.’ I said, ‘David, I’d like to come back as the governor next year.’ He thought about it and said, ‘That’s a good idea.
It remains unclear how his new title will tie into Dwight’s storyline, but given that the latter is kidnapped by people who seem to be government officials at the end of season 2, there’s a non-zero chance of Thresher being involved.

Tulsa King season 3 premieres on September 21 on Paramount+ (USA).
