Donald Trump vs Barack Obama, What Does Angelina Jolie Think About Their Reign?

Angelina Jolie has finally spoken up about the current state of America under Donald Trump’s reign, and while she did not name any names, the actress had a lot to say. Jolie has never been one to shy away from speaking her mind, and now, she’s addressing the topic of free speech, something that recently affected Jimmy Kimmel.

The actress attended Spain’s San Sebastián Film Festival for her upcoming film with director Alice Winocour. There, Jolie was asked a hard-hitting question at the press conference about her current fears as an American artist.

Taking a deep breath, Jolie replied, “It is a very difficult question“. She then launched into a candid answer where she talked about how she no longer recognizes the country she has worked in for a long, long time. Jolie addressed the topic of limiting “personal expressions and freedoms” from people, adding that the country is going through a dangerous time where everyone has to be careful about the things they say casually.

In her words (via Variety),

I’ve always lived internationally, my family is international, my friends, my life… My worldview is equal, united, and international. Anything anywhere that divides or limits personal expressions and freedoms from anyone, I think, is very dangerous. These are such serious times that we have to be careful not to say things casually. These are very, very heavy times we are living in together.

Her words reflected a sense of unease about the current state of the country, which may be a product of Trump’s reign. Jolie’s comments come days after Kimmel and his talk show were suspended by ABC, causing an uproar in the industry about free speech being in danger.

Angelina Jolie’s Mixed Opinion on Barack Obama

Barack Obama led the United States of America for eight years before his term came to an end. During his reign, lots of people had lots of things to say about him, his skills, and even his family.

During his presidency, tabloids and insiders claimed that Jolie was unhappy with Obama’s performance and that she predicted that he was going to be a one-term president.

As per Variety, Jolie dismissed the reports, laughing them off. However, here’s what she actually thought of the former US president. In her honest opinion, Obama did great things during his run, but at the same time, there were other areas that left Jolie disappointed.

She said,

There are many many things I think have gone in a wonderful direction, and there are a few things I am disappointed in. And I don’t feel like tonight is the night to clarify but there are many wonderful things that have moved forward and of course some other things that are very frustrating.

So, while she didn’t completely support Obama, she was also not completely against him and the work he had done as the 44th President of America.

Throwback: Donald Trump’s Harsh Comments on Angelina Jolie

Trump has always been vocal to a fault about the people he does not agree with, and Jolie was once one of the many who faced harsh criticism from him. This was years before Trump ran for the presidency.

In 2007, he appeared for an interview on Larry King Live, where he got brutally candid about what he thinks about Jolie, especially her appearance. Calling her “amazing“, Trump stated that while she isn’t an “unattractive woman, but she’s not  great beauty, by any stretch of the imagination.”

He also took a dig at her humanitarian efforts, stating, “And now she’s like a representative of the United Nations and world peace on hunger and all of this cr*p.” Trump also brought up the scandalous 2000 moment where she kissed her brother James Haven on the lips during the Oscars.

And I remember at the Academy Awards a few years ago she was Frenching her brother. She was giving her brother lip kisses like I never saw before in my life. And she had just said she made love to Billy Bob Thornton in the back of the limousine on the way over. And I wouldn’t want to shake her hand, by the way.

Coming back to her looks, Trump claimed that he understands beauty, and simply added that “she’s not.” While everyone is entitled to their opinion, we are sure there are tons out there who will disagree with the current president’s past statements.
