Does John Cena Have Cancer: Learn About WWE Legend’s Cancer Diagnosis

WWE Superstar John Cena has been diagnosed with skin cancer twice in his life. The reason behind it was his continued exposure to the sun and the lack of sunscreen usage to safeguard his skin from its harmful rays. The Leader of Cenation talked about it in detail in an interview with PEOPLE in March 2025.

He noted that growing up near Newburyport and Salisbury Beach, John Cena naturally spent a lot of time walking on the beach. Cena’s love for summers and the sun grew even further when he moved to Florida in his 20s. The 48-year-old noted that he never thought he would ever get skin cancer.

I was stubborn. I didn’t want to have a routine, and I also thought the problem would never reach me. And it’s one of those things where I had a ton of exposure with minimal protection, and it caught up with me.

Several years down the line, when the 17-time WWE world champion visited a dermatologist, he was diagnosed with skin cancer. As a result, a big white cancerous spot lodged in his right pectoral muscle was surgically removed.

John Cena’s dermatologist had asked him to make revisits for further evaluations, and a year later, another white cancerous spot was removed from his right shoulder. Mr. Hustle Loyalty and Respect said that the spots are somewhat visible whenever he wrestles in WWE as small white polka dots on his pec and his shoulder.

The Message John Cena Has for His Fans

John Cena was completely ignorant about skin cancer and how the lack of necessary protection from the sun causes it. His diagnosis made him learn almost everything about the disease. Sending a message regarding the deadly disease, Cena sent a message to his fans during the same PEOPLE

interview.

I think the best way to hammer home a point is human-to-human connection. And I as a human can tell you: Man, that phone call’s not what you want to get because it is unpredictable and you don’t know how bad it’s going to be.

The Franchise Player highlighted that he used to be paranoid about skin cancer since his mind always drifted to the worst possible outcomes for his body and life. However, he is happy that he dodged the bullet not just once but twice. Now he is a big advocate of protecting the skin against the sun and urges his fans to see it as a habit as essential as brushing teeth.

If you’re out there and you brush your teeth, at a young age, you learned that going to the dentist when your teeth are in bad shape is bad because it’s painful. The same thing will happen if you don’t take care of your skin, and it’s actually easier than brushing your teeth.

Because it’s not something you should exercise to just make you look more beautiful. It’s something you should exercise to allow you to be who you are for a longer period of time. We all love to get out there on a sunny day and enjoy what the world has to offer.

He said that he feels very grateful for it, and his scars now serve as a reminder for him to take a few seconds and apply sunscreen. Moreover, he even partnered with the skincare and cosmetics brand Neutrogena to launch a campaign for its sunscreens.

John Cena said that he never thought that he would ever be the first choice for a skincare campaign, but he was glad to be on board. Although Cena has overcome cancer owing to some good medical advice, he failed to defeat Brock Lesnar this Saturday at Wrestlepalooza.

Brock Lesnar Crushes John Cena With a Big Defeat

The September 20, 2025, premium live event kicked off with the singles match between Brock Lesnar and John Cena. The bout saw The Beast Incarnate have the upper hand right from the get-go. Lesnar wasted no time in sending Cena to Suplex City, tossing him around in the ring.

The final moments of the match saw the former Undisputed Champion land three back-to-back Attitude Adjustments on Lesnar. However, this couldn’t put the former UFC stalwart down. Instead, The Beast Incarnate sprang to his feet and demolished Cena with three consecutive F5s.

Brock Lesnar picked up a dominating victory and increased his head-to-head lead against John Cena to 5-2. But since the former three-time Universal Champion didn’t have his fill, he went on to punish Cena with yet another F5 after the match. The referee who tried to intervene and stop Lesnar also ate an F5.

Unsurprisingly, the WWE Universe was visibly unhappy with the result. Although nobody expected John Cena to slay The Beast Incarnate easily, they weren’t hoping to see the babyface face a crushing defeat. Thus, this match ended up adding yet another disappointment to Cena’s farewell tour.

2025 should have been Cena’s year. However, Triple H and his team have completely failed the final days of his career with an unwarranted heel turn, which has now been replaced with an underwhelming babyface run.

Do you think WWE will be able to do justice to the GOAT’s farewell tour, which still has five more appearances left? Or do you think that ship has already sailed? Let us know your thoughts in the comments.
