Did Noah Centineo Leave the Recruit for Rambo Movie?

Noah Centineo has a lot on his plate, including the Rambo prequel, while also dealing with the cancellation of his Netflix spy adventure series The Recruit. Talking to The Hollywood Reporter at the premiere of Warfare, he revealed why the show was actually canceled.

“It is what it is,” he said, explaining, “Netflix, they have a certain mandate that they need to fill… And with Netflix, it just didn’t really fit what it was that they needed, I suppose.”

However, despite the disappointment, Centineo emphasized that the series was a valuable experience. “I’m very grateful to our audience. We have a pretty strong cult following,” the actor added, emphasizing that the show allowed him to grow and work on something he’s proud of.

Noah Centineo Set to Star in the Rambo Prequel

After The Recruit and the upcoming Street Fighter, Noah Centineo is now set to step into the role of John Rambo in the sixth installment of the action film series.

Deadline revealed in August 2025 that Noah Centineo is attached to star in John Rambo, with production expected to begin in early 2026 in Thailand. The prequel will be directed by Jalmari Helander (Sisu) from a screenplay by writing duo Rory Haines and Sohrab Noshirvani.

Details about the prequel remain under wraps. However, the prequel is believed to be an origin story of a young John Rambo during the Vietnam War.

Based on David Morrell’s novel First Blood, Sylvester Stallone’s 1982 movie First Blood launched the franchise and introduced audiences to one of the most enduring action heroes in Hollywood.

Sylvester has since reprised his role in four additional sequels, including Rambo: First Blood Part II, Rambo III, Rambo, and Rambo: Last Blood, collectively generating more than $800 million worldwide (The Numbers).

Sylvester Stallone’s Reaction to Noah Centineo’s Casting as Young Rambo

Sylvester Stallone, the original Rambo star, has shared his reaction to Noah Centineo’s casting in the upcoming prequel. And the actor has expressed both enthusiasm and his best wishes for the young star.

“I don’t know much about the young man, but this will be quite a challenge. I just hope they get… I think it should be fantastic, I really do,” he said in an interview with Entertainment Tonight.

However, the actor has also had his own vision for the Rambo prequel, involving the use of AI to de-age himself and step back into the role of a younger John Rambo. Those plans, however, never materialized.

While Stallone co-wrote and starred in the original franchise, he has confirmed that he will not be involved in the new prequel.
