On the outside, Confidence Queen might seem like just another Robin Hood-esque story, but on the inside, it really is a story about past wounds, survival, and how unresolved trauma shapes the choices of its central characters. While the earlier episodes established that Gu-ho was abducted as a child and that is how he met Yi-rang for the first time, Episode 6 revealed more about them.
In one of the scenes of Episode 6, we see one man (whose face is not shown) holding a young Gu-ho’s hand as he talks to someone on the phone and watches the news of Yi-rang’s abduction on a large electronic billboard.
Later, at the end of the episode in Yi-rang’s room, we see the walls covered in strings and photos of crimes, including one part that mentions Gu-ho’s abduction. There are also photos of him with possibly his grandfather and father on the wall.
Confidence Queen Episode 6: Gu-ho and Yi-rang’s Abduction Are Related
Until Episode 6, Gu-ho often felt like the muscle of the con-artist trio: reliable, but emotionally guarded. That changes when flashbacks reveal what happened to him as a child.
While the episode does not reveal everything about his abduction, it does establish that both Yi-rang’s and Gu-ho’s abductions are related. In the scene where the man holding a young Gu-ho’s hand is talking on the phone, he is talking to the investigator on Yi-rang’s case, who is actually involved in her abduction.
Even the pictures in Yi-rang’s room tell us that there is a bigger story that we are yet to know about. What once looked like parallel tragedies now appears as a single thread in a much larger tapestry. But from what we have seen so far, Gu-ho doesn’t seem to know all this. However, these are just assumptions as only future episodes will reveal the true picture.
Confidence Queen Episode 6: Who abducted Yi-rang?
While Confidence Queen was only teasing about Yoon Yi-rang’s tragic past in Episodes 1-5, Episode 6 really went deep into what had happened with her.
In the sixth episode, it is revealed that she is the daughter of Chairman Yun Tae-ho of the Rine Group. Her father had thrown her a birthday party at an amusement park, in the theme of Alice in Wonderland.
Abducted from her own party, it is also revealed that James used to be her bodyguard. As for her abductors, it is yet to be revealed who is/are the culprit(s). All we know is that the villain and all his aides wear black masks and clothing. The masks change their voices, too, so we never know who is really behind them.
As for why she was abducted, from what we have seen, it seems to be a personal vendetta of some kind instead of an abduction to extort money.
However, given how Gu-ho’s abduction is related to Yi’rang’s, it hints that the villain isn’t a single criminal but a hidden organization, and unraveling its web may become the trio’s ultimate con.
So far, Episode 6 of Confidence Queen delivers one of the season’s most emotional twists. With answers still hidden, what do you think about the kdrama so far, and what are you most looking forward to seeing? Let us know in the comments below!
