AEW Paid a Better Tribute to John Cena With Edge Than What WWE Did at Wrestlepalooza

Brock Lesnar became the first wrestler on the match card to walk out to the ring after the grand beginning of WWE Wrestlepalooza. Moments later, John Cena made his exquisite entrance with an army of kids.

The look in both Cena’s and Lesnar’s eyes spoke volumes about the prolonged rivalry between these two WWE icons. However, fans were pleasantly surprised as Alicia Taylor introduced Cena as the “Greatest Of All Time.” But what happened next was even more shocking as Paul Heyman cut Taylor off to announce Lesnar’s credentials.

Brock Lesnar annihilated John Cena at WWE Wrestlepalooza

Just like most other Cena vs. Lesnar instances, Lesnar played the aggressor at the beginning of the fight. Two clotheslines later, Cena was on the floor. ‘The Beast Incarnate’ hit a powerbomb on Cena moments later. However, things became worse for Cena as he took Cena to Suplex City once more and subjected him to a suplex.

The 17-time world champion tried to regain some momentum, but another clothesline and a suplex from Lesnar put Cena on the back foot once again. However, Cena didn’t give up and took Lesnar down after four flying shoulder tackles.

The ‘Cenation’ applied his finisher, the Attitude Adjustment, to Lesnar three times, but he failed to conquer ‘The Conqueror’ even with a collection of three AAs. Just while Cena was about to hit the fourth AA, Lesnar sprang into action and subjected Cena to his brutal finisher, F5.

Subsequently, Lesnar hit three more F5s on Cena and proceeded for the cover. He secured the pinfall to earn his fifth victory in the seventh singles clash between the pair.

Nevertheless, Lesnar returned to the ring after defeating Cena and took out his frustration on him by subjecting him to another F5. Fans were startled entirely when Lesnar subjected the in-ring referee to an F5 as well. After Lesnar’s proud walk out of the arena, a defeated Cena took slow steps backstage.

While the WWE didn’t award Cena a victory against Lesnar even amid his retirement tour, the former WWE star, Edge, who is known as Adam Copeland in AEW gave a tribute to Cena amid his AEW: All Out 2025 in Toronto match.

Edge replicated Cena’s entire finishing sequence, from the five-knuckle shuffle to the AA to pay homage to the ‘Cenation’ star.

Edge also talked about Cena in a four-day old interview with ‘theScore’ amid the latter’s retirement tour. He mentioned how he and Cena found each other at the right time of their WWE careers. Cena, being a babyface, needed a potent heel to hype his rise. Edge detailed how his feuds with the 17-time world champion helped Cena’s cause along with making him a renowned face in the community. “For John and I, we’re two guys who met each other at the right time. He needed a bad guy. I needed a good guy. It just clicked. You never know when something is going to click.”

Edge’s Attitude Adjustement homage to Cena at AEW: All Out 2025 might have been an act to return the tribute Cena paid to the ‘Rated R Superstar’ amid his United States title match with Sami Zayn on the September 5 episode of SmackDown.

While several WWE stars have used the spear over time, Edge had a signature way of delivering it after asking his opponents to “get up.” Cena copied Edge’s “get up” gesture before delivering the spear to make sure that fans realized who he wanted to honor.

WWE fans aren’t happy about the result of John Cena vs. Brock Lesnar at Wrestlepalooza

With Cena being on his retirement tour, a large chunk of the fanbase had expected that Triple H and Co. would allow him to walk out as the victor of his Wrestlepalooza match with Lesnar. Their expectations were crushed after witnessing Cena’s defeat, but even more shockingly, several kids were spotted with tears in their eyes after witnessing the babyface, Cena, lose.

Fans took to the comments section of an X update by WWE to vent their frustration with the results of the match. One of them penned,

“I’m so glad I didn’t pay to watch this wow”
