Borderlands 4 was released back on September 12, 2025, and it is slowly but surely taking over the entire video game space. This is the fifth mainline entry in the Borderlands series, and it has already surpassed more than 300,000 players (according to SteamDB). Borderlands 4 has a plethora of overpowered items in the game, so we have decided to make a list of the top ten most overpowered Legendary items. Let’s get started.
10. Hellfire
First up, we have the Hellfire, which is one of the craziest weapons in Borderlands 4. If you absolutely love watching your enemies melt to liquid, then the Hellfire might become your new best friend. This incendiary SMG is all about setting things on fire, plus it’s fast, furious, and looks insanely cool while you’re burning your way through the battlefield.
The Hellfire is a dedicated legendary drop from the Skyspanner Kratch boss, which is located at the Lambent Mines, within the Cuspid Climb area within the Terminus Range region. Because Skyspanner Kratch is connected to the main story, you cannot just go over there in the early game and start farming.
9. Oscar Mike
At number nine, we have the Oscar Mike, which is an assault rifle in Borderlands 4, with some serious legendary effects that make it an absolute monster. Its first legendary effect is that it deals a bonus 50% damage for the first 50% of its magazine, which is a great way to start a fight. But the real kicker is the underbarrel space laser on its alt fire, which deals insane damage to stationary targets.
Borderlands 4 Ending Explained
This Assault Rifle is a dedicated legendary drop from Genone, which is a boss that will unlock only after you complete the Fault Hunting side quest in the Carcadia Burn region. You can use Moxxi’s Big Encore Machine to farm for this legendary weapon.
8. Lucian’s Flank
At number eight, we have Lucian’s Flank, which is another assault rifle in Borderlands 4 with an absurdly high fire rate and a massive magazine. Its main legendary effect is that critical hits from this gun can refill up to two ammo in the magazine, which means you can fire this gun for what feels like forever, without ever having to reload. It is the perfect gun for laying down a stream of bullets and shredding enemies to pieces.
Lucian’s Flank is one of the dedicated drops from the Saddleback, who is one of the two bosses that make up the Meathead Riders in the Old Scape Drill Site, which is located on the Southern edge of the Terminus Range region.
7. Firewerks
Now, if you are tired of enemies constantly invading your personal space in Borderlands 4, then you can say hello to the Firewerks shield, because this Legendary piece of gear is a total game-changer for crowd control. Its main legendary effect will unleash a barrage of powerful homing missiles whenever you get a kill, and whenever an Armor Segment breaks, it will launch three more missiles at the enemy.
10 Major Mistakes In Borderlands 4 That Every Player Needs To Avoid
The Firewerks shield can be obtained from Splash Zone, which, other than being the first boss you encountered, is also the most farmed boss in the entire game. He can be farmed right after you have finished the tutorial in the Fadefields area.
6. Swarm
Next up, we have the Swarm grenade, which is what happens when you leave your cloning equipment unsupervised. Yes, the Swarm grenade explodes, but it doesn’t end there because then it breaks into three more homing grenades, and each of those grenades also breaks into another three, creating a crazy cascade of explosions. It is the ultimate tool for clearing out huge groups of smaller enemies.
The Swarm grenade is a dedicated drop from the Sidney Pointylegs, who is a boss from another Drill Site, known as the Prospects Drill Site in the Hungering Plain area. Sidney Pointylegs can also be killed again and again using Moxxi’s Big Encore Machine.
5. Linebacker
At number five, we have the Linebacker, which is basically what you get when you cross a shotgun with a rocket launcher in Borderlands 4. This weapon shoots off bouncing rocket projectiles that explode on contact with the enemy, but if they hit any other surface, they will bounce, and for every bounce, the damage and the explosion radius are increased. This makes it the perfect weapon for closed and confined spaces.
This weapon from Borderlands 4 is another dedicated drop from the Skyspanner Kratch boss in the Lambent Mines, similar to the Hellfire.
4. War Paint
Not all Legendary items in Borderlands 4 are weapons because we have the War Paint, which is a legendary Repkit that, unlike other Repkits, focuses more on the offensive side. It gives you a 30% bonus on both fire rate and movement speed when you use it. But what makes it more overpowered is that its cooldown is reduced by two seconds every time you take damage.
Borderlands 4 Xp Farm: The Fastest Way to Level up in the Game
The War Paint Repkit is a dedicated drop from the Saddleback, from the Meadhead Riders. This location is the exact same as Lucian’s Flank, and it can be found at the Old Scape Drill Site, located on the Southern edge of the Terminus Range region.
3. Complex Root
At number three, we have the Complex Root, which is a medium to long-range sniper rifle that fires additional, diverging projectiles along the main bullet’s path. This weapon was actually introduced back in Borderlands 3, and similar to the previous game, it is crazy in dealing damage and taking out high-priority targets.
The Complex Root is a dedicated drop from Mimicron, who is a boss hiding inside the Tipping Point Order Bunker, located at the south of the Fadefields.
2. Rainbow Vomit
At number two, we have Rainbow Vomit, which is basically your wild card in Borderlands 4, made for dealing all types of elemental damage at once. This is a colorful and funky shotgun that shoots off six elemental pellets that deal three random elemental damage types simultaneously. This weapon is basically a wild ride that makes you feel like a mad scientist, and it’s effective against all types of enemies.
The Rainbow Vomit is one of the dedicated drops from the Leader Willem boss, who will be located at the Grindstone of the Worthy area, if you have already killed him at Carcadia Burn. To unlock him, you have to complete a side quest chain, starting with Enter the Electi and finishing with The Mole’s Gambit.
1. Hot Slugger
Lastly, we have the Hot Slugger, which is universally accepted as one of the strongest weapons possible in Borderlands 4. The Hot Slugger is a one-shot shotgun that feels like a sniper rifle with serious anger issues. Although it fires just one slug, its main party trick is the Blazing Barrel effect, which gives you a 30% damage bonus for three seconds. The neat part is that this effect can stack up to three times, giving you a total of 90% bonus damage.
The Hot Slugger is a dedicated drop from Callous Harbinger of Annihilating Doom, who is a boss located at the end of the Craven’s Nook Order Bunker, located at the Heart of the Mountain in the Terminus Range.
Which one of these Legendary items are you gonna use? Let us know down in the comments.
