After a series of flops and disasters, it seems like Ubisoft is set to revive one of its most beloved titles with a remake of Assassin’s Creed IV: Black Flag. That’s right, gamers, rumours suggest that the fan-favorite game is making a comeback soon.
While it’s certainly going to be a smash hit, we think there are 10 key changes that the Assassin’s Creed IV: Black Flag Remake needs to meet today’s gaming standards and become the best Assassin’s Creed entry ever.
10. Mission Redesign
One of the biggest changes the Assassin’s Creed IV: Black Flag remake needs to focus on is redesigning its missions, especially the tailing ones.
While we don’t dislike them, it’s impossible to overlook just the sheer number of these packed into the game, with Edward getting most of his intel this way. The remake should change things and give us unique missions.
9. Weapon Customization
It’s still mind-boggling to think about how the original Assassin’s Creed IV: Black Flag didn’t allow players to truly customize their weapons.
Edward is locked into using dual swords, which feels like a downgrade from previous entries, which offered a number of weapons to equip. Sure, he can pick up weapons like swords and axes from others, but why can’t he actually equip them?
8. Add El Tiburón’s Boss Fight
For those who’ve played the game and don’t remember, El Tiburón was the heavily armored brute working for the Templars, and players only encounter him at the end of the game.
However, Edward was actually supposed to have a full-fledged fight with him at the end of Sequence 2, which he was destined to lose. This fight was removed during development, but it’s still referenced in the game. Ubisoft absolutely needs to bring back this fight in the remake.
7. Bounty Hunters
A feature we’d really love to see added in the rumored Assassin’s Creed IV: Black Flag remake is the addition of bounty hunters. Pirate hunters were a menace in the original game and chased you on the sea for all your crimes.
Unfortunately, the moment you set foot on the land, they stopped. Bounty hunters who track down Edward for his activities would bring that same level of threat, but on land.
6. Epilogue and Prologue
Assassin’s Creed IV: Black Flag‘s storyline is already one of the franchise’s best, so it doesn’t need any major changes. What Ubisoft can do is bring a deeper exploration of Edward’s life and explain to us how he became a pirate.
Unlocking bonus memories throughout the game and accessing them from the Captain’s Cabin can be an option. The same goes for an epilogue. All these are already well-documented in the Black Flag book, and Ubisoft just needs to bring them to the game.
5. New Game Plus
It’s high time Assassin’s Creed IV: Black Flag gets a New Game Plus mode. Replaying the story is always a blast, but the issue is that grinding for ship upgrades can prove to be a headache and can take hundreds of hours.
A New Game Plus in the remake can let us carry over our progress from previous playthroughs and experience the story all over again. It’s a small quality of life improvement that can go a long way.
4. Side Quests
Side quests are a crucial part of any action-adventure game, yet for some reason, the original Assassin’s Creed IV: Black Flag didn’t feature many of them.
That’s why the remake should include a much greater variety. Open-world side quests that are similar to those we played in the RPGs would be awesome. However, side quests tied directly to Edward’s ship could take the experience to the next level.
3. Autopilot
Sailing as Edward is certainly an experience, but sometimes all you want to do is sit back and enjoy the stunning seas without constantly mashing buttons to steer the ship.
An Autopilot feature in the Assassin’s Creed IV: Black Flag remake can easily solve this issue. Let Adewale or another crewmate take the wheel for you to focus on other tasks. It’s not a game-changing addition, but it can definitely improve the experience and make it more enjoyable for everyone.
2. Open-World Travelling
Assassin’s Creed IV: Black Flag remake can benefit from a more seamless open world. Ubisoft has the chance to make exploration feel much better, whether it’s sailing or walking through towns. It needs to cut down on loading times between the sea and the land.
The game could also feature new transportation additions, such as Rowboats for reaching small islands, as they’re annoying to swim to in the original game.
1. New DLC
Ubisoft did give the original game some DLC treatment with Freedom Cry. However, in a remake, it should be brought back alongside the base game. We’d love to see tons of improvements and changes in a Freedom Cry expansion that could even bring some fresh content.
If that’s not possible, a brand-new expansion focused on Edward could be another option. We could see him returning to the West Indies, teaming up with old allies, and tackling new challenges. There are a bunch of possibilities when we talk about Assassin’s Creed IV: Black Flag remake DLCs.
